Class Description

This class is suitable for beginners or refreshers.

You will be introduced to special glass types, including textured and dichroic glass, to create unique kiln formed jewels. Through discussions, demonstrations and practice you will learn kiln glass techniques and the cool effect temperature has on your projects. Learn how to finish your jewels into pendants, earrings and brooches by drilling, adhering findings and wire wrapping.

You will create up to 4 sets of jewellery (4 pairs of earrings, 4 pendants and 4 brooches) in this course and gain the knowledge on how to finish additional pieces at home. Thoughtful design as well as simple coldworking methods and multiple firings will be encouraged.

Marja Huhta

Marja Huhta earned a PhD in Chemistry and worked as a scientist for years, but her love of kiln-formed glass led her down a more creative path. She founded Glass Elements in 2008, selling her modern and colorful jewelry and art around the world. Marja also shared her love of glass art by serving as a studio coordinator and instructor at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle for several years. In 2019, Marja moved to Dublin with her family, where she continues exploring new techniques in glass and teaching kiln glass classes at various studios around the country.
