ABOUT US

Mulranny Arts hosts a diverse range of classes from fine arts to various fine craft techniques ranging from flamework glass to metalsmith jewellery making and sculpture taught by local and international artists. Music, Irish Language and lectures on a range topics are ongoing events.

It is a place where artists share their skills in specialised studios for both beginner and more experienced students, and the unique refurbished oratory provides a beautiful space for a variety of entertainments and gatherings. Public educational meetings and community events are welcomed.

The building, known today as the Old Mulranny Convent, was originally a priest’s residence, likely dating from the early 1900s. The structure that now stands as the convent was purpose-built in 1932, and the Sisters of Mercy took up residence in 1934, remaining for roughly fifty years. In 2021 the Browne family of Mulranny purchased the building, restoring and converting it into an Arts and Culture Centre. Pádraig Browne recalls visiting the convent as a child while attending the local school, especially the First Communion breakfasts hosted by the nuns. He and his wife Cheryl, honouring the building’s cultural and historical significance, are delighted to open it to the community with a mission to create a place where:

Words, Forms and Ideas Ignite the Creative Impulse

OUR MISSION

The mission of this organisation is to promote and advance creative, cultural, and environmental awareness through the arts by:

  • Supporting the development of artistic skills and fostering creative awareness and expression;

  • Promoting and enriching Irish cultural awareness through music, language, community participation and local tours.

  • Encouraging environmental and nature awareness through artistic practice and creative exploration.

OUR VISION

We envision a thriving creative ecosystem on the campus that supports and inspires individuals to explore and deepen their artistic journeys. Through meaningful engagement with the natural environment and the rich cultural heritage of Ireland, creativity becomes a pathway to personal growth, cultural and environmental awareness and most of all, joy.  Guided by experienced artists supported by well-equipped studios and accommodation spaces sustained by a nurturing staff, this environment empowers creative expression and connections for a memorable stay.

Cheryl Cobern Browne

Founder and Mission Director

“As Mission Director, my goal is to enhance the visitor experience with clarity of mission and ensure the financial viability of our enterprise to support  programs, scholarships and residencies.

The greater movement is helping with activating creative resonance through art and self awareness so that guests and students can carry the memory of this experience and then build on it in their own personal space.

We do this by fostering creativity in its many diverse expressions, weaving individual contributions into a unified field of service that supports and uplifts all who participate. Guided by the ethos of nature, culture, and creativity, we engage knowledge and skills in ways that cultivate joy, meaning and connection.”
