Welcome to Mulranny Arts, where creativity and nature converge in one of Ireland’s most breathtaking settings. Here, you will immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of Mulranny - where sea, land and sky provide endless inspiration - while mastering the intricate art of Silver Metal Clay. Under the expert guidance of renowned artists Anna Mazon and Carol Douglas, you’ll craft a unique triskele-inspired pendant, turning your personal connection with Ireland’s natural beauty into a lasting, wearable piece of art. This masterclass offers not just a deep dive into technique, but a transformative creative experience that will leave you with a beautiful reminder of your journey.

  • What you will make

    We will focus on making a narrative pendant, loosely based on the idea of the three realms – Land, Sea and Sky – which we will experience during the retreat in many different ways.  From inspiration through research and development to construction and finishing, Carol and Anna will guide you with their expertise through your own ceative journey of making a very personal, meaningful piece of jewellery.

    A journey through Land, Sea, and Sky -discover a retreat like no other, where each day explores a different realm, drawing inspiration from the natural world and Celtic mythology. Let these magical encounters ignite your creativity in our serene studio setting, nestled along the breathtaking Wild Atlantic Way. Mulranny, surrounded by rugged mountains, pristine beaches and vast, ever-changing Atlantic skies, is a haven for artists and dreamers alike.

    Along with evening creative games and activities, the retreat features a welcome party, four studio days and two days of guided tours. To enhance the Celtic atmosphere, enjoy drum circles, storytelling, fire pit gatherings, star gazing, labyrinth walks, beachcombing and traditional Irish music.

  • What you will Learn

    Designed for ambitious metal clay artists, this retreat offers an immersive, fun and educational experience to enhance both creativity and skills. Under the expert guidance of Carol and Anna, you’ll learn to take an idea from concept to completion using diverse methods of sculpting, construction and carving.

    We’ll focus on selecting the right techniques to express your artistic vision inspired by Mulranny’s unique landscape. Through playful experimentation, we may even discover new and surprising methods together. All in a supportive, high-energy environment that encourages creativity to flow freely.

About Anna Mazon

Anna is a jewellery designer from Krakow, Poland who began making jewelry in 2008. Her pieces are hand built and full of fine details. They have a slightly dark, fantasy vibe, combined with a refined organic feeling and are inspired by nature, ancient cultures, and literature. Anna's materials of choice are sterling silver and bronze. She often combines metal clay with metalsmithing. Photos of Anna Mazoń’s work have been published in a variety of books and magazines, including the covers of well know trade journals and calendars. Anna has been either a finalist or winner in the Metal Clay Category of the Saul Bell Design Award in 2015, 2014 and 2013. A renowned metal clay teacher, Anna has taught in different places throughout the world since 2013. Over the years Anna developed jewellery brand (Drakonaria) combining metal clay and lost wax casting. Since 2020 she also designs merchandise for a famous metal band Behemoth.

About Carol Douglas

Carol is an international teacher, instructor and lecturer with over 35 years in Education. Her qualifications include a Dip.Ed and B.ED in ceramics and general art studies and a Masters Degree in Creativity and Educational Management.

She has been been part of UK National exhibitions and has been published in several books, exhibition catalogues and magazines. She has also been awarded prizes for her artwork and jewellery, some of which were presented in the Goldsmiths Hall in London, the Birmingham Assay Office and the International Jewellery Show at Earls Court.

She takes inspiration for her personal work from folk and faerie tales, the seashore and New Forest where she lives.

During your stay at Mulranny Arts, you'll not only experience the magic of this unique environment, but also embark on unforgettable tours that showcase the very best of Ireland's west coast.

Full Day Tour

The full day tour will include a guided tour of Achill Island, following the Wild Atlantic Way route. Achill boasts the highest sea cliffs in Western Europe, iconic beaches, soaring mountains, peaceful lakes and ancient boglands, all under the vast Atlantic skies. You'll also discover intriguing historical sites along the way, with a delicious lunch at the BeeHive Restaurant.

Half Day Tour

The half day tour will include a visit to Burrishoole Abbey, Graine Uaile’s Castle - the Pirate Queen of Ireland’s West Coast, Furnace Lake, the Old Irish Goat Visitor Center in Mulranny, a viewing of the famous Harry Clarke stained glass windows and a trip to the bustling market town of Westport. Here, you'll have time to explore and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant or café.

Your home for the week

The Mulranny Arts retreat centre is complete with well equipped studios, private bedrooms, a cozy gathering room with fireplace and a communal kitchen for those midnight snacks!

All meals will be included and prepared by an on-site private chef and will focus on delicious, healthy cuisine.

  • If Students do not have their own transportation, Mulranny Arts will supply transportation from Westport/Castlebar to the Mulranny Arts Campus (Students must make their own way via Train or Bus to Westport/Castelbar where a pick up point and time will be arranged)
